WWW6: representing the Web community
jean-francois abramatic and some of his colleagues from the board of the
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) asked the
audience for feedback about the Web in general and this conference in
particular. he explained that this conference was not organized by the
World Wide Web Consortium, but by the stanford
university and the Stanford Linear
Accelerator Center (SLAC) under the auspices of the
International World Wide Web Conference
Committee (IW3C2). however, the W3C participated in the conference by
providing a complete stream of presentations.
some of the issues discussed are:
- there is a lot of talk about internationalization, but
the whole conference was held in english.
jean-francois abramatic promised
that the W3C will support the local organization committee of
WWW7 to address this request.
- the Web is no longer was it used to be two or three years ago. there is a
lot of commercialization.
a member of the board explained that he can't see
what's wrong with that. he wants to be able to re-new his driving
license over the Web and he loves to shop at two o'clock in the
morning sitting in his living room. i certainly agree with this statement. we
need some commercial benefits by using the Internet, so the people with money
care about the Internet and help to improve it.
